The Grid, originally uploaded by flight industries.

90 x 91 cm
Oil on board with backing frame

Here I am starting to explore the psyche as a vessel shape. The idea is loosely about being tied up and launching out

This is obviously more polished than the previous post.
Created in my third year of life drawing, a bit of experience under my belt, and certainly a love for compositions. I even started doing the faces.

I thought I'd pop in some of my life drawings.
I did this one in my first year and was so excited by it.

Look closely!

A place to fit, 2004, embossed blind print on paper, 55 x 75 cm Sally Flynn, originally uploaded by flight industries.

I stumbled across the process of printing without ink (blind printing/embossing) during my honours year (2004). I enjoy this process so much that I have continued to use it for many bodies of work.

The works which I made during the honours study carry the theme of the fighting psyches, and the lone vessel which represents a whole self.

Created as part of the honours thesis 'Pilgrim'

hrough the blind prints I was thinking that the paper representing a moment in time, and the position of the cresent represented where I felt I was at the time. It's sort of like a visual diary using symbols.

This work "A place to fit" stands apart as it does not have the movement going on around the cresent (now shown as a vessel). The vessel has found where it belongs.

Like wallpaper, designer wave, originally uploaded by flight industries.

I think this is the most recent embossing I have made.

It was printed for the Scotch Oakburn biannual exhibition, Connections, shown at the SPACE gallery, Launceston, Tas, 2008

The images is of a wave inside a crescent. I exhibited it with two identical prints to achieve a wallpaper repetition.

I do have several editions of this work (rare)

Each person seeks their passage, originally uploaded by flight industries.

Emboss on paper,
2007

Created for a solo show at Urban Grind, Brisbane

The imagery is of the wake behind a boat. I'm trying to make a poetic comment about the path we leave behind us

Surfer-detail 1, 2005, Blind print on pine veneer and paper, 76 X 50 cm, Sally Flynn, originally uploaded by flight industries.

This work was created for the exhibition 'Veneer', shown at Poimena Gallery, Launceston in 2005.

It features a panel of pine veneer adhered to paper. The embossing was applied across this surface. It shows a wave, and makes a statement about life feeling like surfing the big waves.

The work was sold at the exhibition

Shades of Moods, originally uploaded by flight industries.

This work is a combination of an embossing and a monoprint. The embossing over the top is a birds eye view of the Brisbane river. The monoprint shows different faces of the ocean.

The work was made for the exhibition Ebb and Flow, a group exhibition of the work of the Impress Printmakers, shown at the Circle Gallery 2007
